My answer to that is I have a website design and SEO customer in North Carolina that when he contacted me he had an old dated business website that did not rank at all in the organic search engines. For Internet traffic he relied on Google PPC advertising to the tune of $1200.00 per month!
I designed and developed a Joomla CMS fully optimised website. Upon launching the website within 30 days he had climbed considerably in the search engines to a point that he was generating 33% of his traffic from the organic search engines. At that time he opted to enroll in one of my off page SEO campaigns to the tune of $315.00 per month. After 3 months he was developing so much organic search engine traffic he was able to completely discontinue his Google PPC account and relied on his traffic from the organic search engines. He was ecstatic!
One of the most interesting bits of feedback I received from this customer is that both him and his agents noticed that the quality of the organic traffic and contacts were far superior. His closing ratio increased tremendously due to the different type of Internet traffic. I personally found this quite interesting.
His optimized website cost him $2900.00 and to date he has spent around $1300.00 for off page SEO. His Google PPC budget was $14,400.00 per year.
What do you think? Is Search Engine Optimization a good investment?

On the subject of submitting your website to the Search Engines
I don't know any other way to answer this question than to tell you if a website designer or SEO professional tells you or worse yet offers to charge you for submitting your website to the search engines. Run! This is one of the biggest scams that is unfortunately still being used to bilk your hard earned money. This is intentionally being done or they quite honestly do not have a clue how the search engines work.
This might sound a little passive but the best way to get your website indexed by the search engine is to let them find you!
The very core of the search engines is links. The best way to get your website noticed and indexed is to let them find you via a link into your business website.
Your next question is probably how do you just let them find you by a link. Let me tell you how I "announce" a new website to the Internet is I post a blog post about the new website with a few links in it. One link will be to the home page and a few more links to important internal pages. If done properly these links will be textural links to relevant pages in your website.
Any website that has any aspirations of ranking well in the Organic Search Engines will be participating in a off page SEO program. This will complete the process of getting all your web pages indexed and hopefully an the way to being a productive member of your marketing team!
Back to the original question of how much does it cost to submit your website to the search engines. When I develop your website, nothing!
Yes it does. Google has recently publicly announced that website load time will be factored into their algorithm.
Not only do we want to take into account how the search engines view our website but the end users. How good of a viewing experience is it if the website pages load slow? Not a very good one as we have all experienced when viewing websites on the Internet.
I personaly host all my websites on the best hosting I can get, C Class servers. Additionally I recommend to all my customers if they choose not to use my hosting plan to ensure the hosting they choose be of good quality.
The difference is price between low grade hosting and first class is about double. That is a small cost of business when you think about it.
This may be a debatable question. My experience with developing business websites that need to rank well in the organic search engines has been that if you as a developer fully understand the search engines and SEO, CMS websites have the ability to rank exceptionally well in the search engines.
I will go as far as to say with a well grounded understanding of SEO a developer can capitalize on the inherent navigation and hierarchy of a CMS. Google loves clean navigation. Content management systems if developed correctly have excellent navigation. This is a plus.
In a nutshell I develope business websites that need to rank well, that is what i am known for and most of the time contracted for. I personaly feel CMS websites are the only way to go.
One of the first things I generaly notice about most E-commerce websites is the fact that they have no homepage content and rarly have any interior pages dedicated to relevant content.
Most E-commerce Website Designers develope the homepage of a website with nothing but flashy teasers, graphics and the like. This is contrary to the very basics of SEO, you must have food for the organic serch engines, CONTENT! Product titles do not go very far as far as SEO is concerned. And now that Google is using Latent Semantic Indexing in their algorithm that type of a page is seriously lacking. You cannot get any traction in the organic search engines with that type of design.
I develop relevant content that outlines the products sold on the website. Also if you are selling boxing gloves in your E-commerce website I develop good content about your boxing gloves. This is not only for the search engines to digest but it gives your shoppers information they can use in their decision making process when considering purchasing from you. Well written content can go a long way in establishing confidence with your shoppers.
Also personaly I do not like the cold hard sell we all see on most E-commerce websites. When the homepage is full of nothing but hard selling blurbs etc.
An E-commerce Website Design can be warm and inviting, yet effectively display your products in a light that invites sales.
Back links are very important to the success of any search engine optimization efforts made to a website. I do offer link building campaigns and programs for my customers, both web design and SEO clients.
I have some very affordable and more imporrtantly highly effective link building campain programs that will enhance your web site SEO.
